About Fariba
Fariba Jamal is a Record Specialist at the George Mason Police Department in Fairfax, Virginia, where she has worked since October 2022. In this role she performs administration accounting duties, conducts criminal background checks, and supports operations involving criminal justice laws and regulations. Jamal earned her bachelor's degree in Kabul, Afghanistan, and later began an MBA program at Australia University after arriving in the United States on a special immigrant visa. Prior to her current position she worked as an interpreter with the U.S. military and held contracting roles. She values ethics, integrity, empathy, and hard work, and she attributes her professional success to being helpful and maintaining a positive outlook. Jamal participates in community outreach events such as National Out Night and enjoys swimming and fitness activities. She is actively seeking opportunities to advance into a managerial role in finance or accounting and aims to expand her professional network in those fields.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I think I'm a very nice person, I'm very nice to everyone, and I have a good heart. I always want for everybody good things, you know? Like, I'm trying my best to be helpful all the time. Whoever needs me. And, that's... that's how, like, I usually, like, Some people, they're... they know me, and they're telling me that you're... you're a very nice, person, like, inside and outside.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The base carrier advice I have received is, From my mentor, which, always told me, like, Do your work, focus on your work. And, be as a team player. And then, yeah, like, be accountable, responsible, And it was the advice that I got from my mentor when I started working.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
First time when I started, my job. I will... I had... You know, like... English is my second language. And I do have. accent. And I'm trying to work on that, to fix it, but because it's... it's sometimes... it is, I think, sometimes a kind of, like, challenging, but I'm trying to, you know, fix it, but... Sometimes Being English as a second language, it's kind of, like, challenging. Right now, I don't have any challenges, actually.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Be ethical. to have integrity, And have empathy for other people. Mmm... That's it, I think. Yeah, and hardworking.
