Her Story

About Fatima

Raja Akhtar has built her career in talent strategy and executive search, specializing in the full cycle recruitment process. With a little over four years of experience, including two internships, she manages sourcing candidates through LinkedIn and job boards, conducting interviews, guiding candidates through preparation and negotiations, and building long-term relationships with both candidates and hiring managers. Her expertise spans multiple industries including finance, sales, IT, engineering, human resources, marketing, and administrative roles, often focusing on high-level positions. Raja's educational path began with a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, where she initially aimed to become a therapist but discovered her interest in industrial and organizational psychology. She furthered her studies with a master's of science in industrial and organizational psychology from UTA, participating in research labs on topics like workplace mobbing and its impact on women in organizations. This foundation, combined with her involvement in Aggie Mental Health Ambassadors during undergrad to reduce mental health stigma, informs her approach to recruitment. She attributes her success to family support and self-motivation, emphasizing resilience in the face of rejection, advice she also shares as the best career guidance she has received.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Fatima

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my family and their support. And then my self-motivation as well. I don't let rejection get to me so that self-drive is really important, but I would say my family support has really helped me with that.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't let rejection get to you. If you really want to work in a specific company and you interview and it doesn't go well, try applying again. Just keep going for it.
