Her Story

About Fedra

My name is Fedra Tehrani, and I am a Licensed Clinical Therapist. I realize that it may have taken some time to get here. So, I would like to share a little more about myself to see if our work together would best meet your needs. Presently, I work out of my office in Danville but also provide online therapy to clients in all of California.

My therapeutic approach comes from a client centered whole person care. This is due to my past work experience within various levels of treatment at the San Mateo County inpatient and outpatient programs. I had opportunities to learn and practice various specialized treatment approaches (CBT, DBT, MI, seeking safety) to address substance use due to past experience of abuse, neglect, and trauma. Presently, I specialize in psychodynamic therapy supporting young adults and adolescents with developing & rebuilding a healthier sense of self.

I’ve always been curious about social behavior, which naturally led me to study social psychology for my bachelor’s and clinical psychology for my master’s. After graduating, I worked as a Rehab Therapist at San Mateo County Hospital’s acute crisis unit, helping clients with trauma, abuse, anxiety, substance use, and thought disorders. Later, I was promoted to Rehab Director, where I supervised other therapists and gained valuable experience in crisis intervention and treatment. When I started my family, I wanted more flexibility, so I transitioned to Edgewood Center, where I worked with adolescents and young adults with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. It was there that I strengthened my clinical skills, becoming trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and other trauma-informed approaches, while also learning mindfulness and coping tools to support my clients’ healing.

Ten minutes with Fedra

01What do you attribute your success to?

There are many aspects of my life that I could consider attributing to my success in this field, but the most significant one was not settling for less than what I believed I deserved not just as a licensed clinician and my experiences, but also what I believed any dedicated and committed professional should expect from their work environment and superiors.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received was to always set a higher standard and prioritize your values personally and professionally because it will drive you forward regardless of any setbacks since it speaks true to you and your mission.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I have always pushed the limits and expected more. So "Why not me!" The one very precious and unique quality you have is using your voice to speak up for yourself and others.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I believe we are all seeing the expansion of AI and how to best incorporate it into our practice. Thus, to explore how it could expand our profession and not be reluctant of it taking from what is unique to our work and the quality of services we provide in the field of psychotherapy.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value my family and my joys in life that make me excited and happy to wake up and drive towards building more for them as well as less fortunate others.
