Her Story

About Felicia

Felicia Brookins launched her career as an author and workshop facilitator in 2015 when she founded the Aspiring Authors and Writers Workshop in Jackson, Mississippi. The workshop began as a way to share lessons from her own publishing journey and to introduce her book series, initially through in-person sessions before transitioning to virtual formats. Participants receive guidance on writing, book covers, publishing options, and marketing strategies, with connections to relevant professionals. Brookins has extended this platform by creating theater productions and a transformational workbook to demonstrate creative applications of published work. She established the Safe Space Theater Therapy Foundation to engage youth and teens in discussions about mental health, intergenerational trauma, and related topics through script readings and expert-led conversations. Her writing includes The Ways Trilogy, available on major retailers, and she attributes her drive to her mother's emphasis on education and the goal of making her family proud. Brookins emphasizes integrity and consistent personal branding in all her professional endeavors.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Felicia

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from the drive my mother put in me and the love of reading she gave me from childhood. She always said if she could get her PhD in her late 60s then I could do anything. Making my parents proud is a big drive for me, and I also represent my husband's family.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise them first of all to invest in themselves by attending conferences or workshops. Most importantly get a literary mentor. When I first started I was connected to someone who became my literary mentor for several years and the advice she gave has been very helpful.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is number one. Do what you say you're going to do and if you can't be considerate enough to let people know why. How you show up in every space and room you go into because you are your brand.
