Her Story

About Firdaws

I've always enjoyed business and the different aspects of it, which is why I decided to choose it as my career path. I like numbers and crunching numbers, and I've always liked analyzing data. I've been in finance for about 8 years now, and along the way I've worked in sales and accounts receivable before moving into my current role. Today, I work as a credit and collections analyst at Kubota, where I've been on contract for 6 months. My day-to-day involves looking at past dues, looking at all the agings for a business in a business-to-business context, reaching out to other businesses, resolving issues, processing payments, and accepting or rejecting business loans. What I love most about the work I do is that I think it holds businesses together. Without the credit and collections team, we wouldn't be collecting payments, and in order for the business to run, you need money. Feeling like I'm making an impact to the actual business day-to-day is what I find most satisfying. I also enjoy trying to find different solutions to different problems.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Firdaws

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say resilience and just being able to pivot a lot. Having the ability to be malleable to my different environments has been key to my success. Throughout my career, I've had to adapt and change direction multiple times, from working in different industries like retail and restaurants to making the transition from financial sales to the corporate finance side. Being able to adjust and remain flexible in the face of new challenges and opportunities has really been what's helped me grow and succeed over the years.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to be confident in yourself and in your ideas, and to not be shy. Trust in yourself and in your skills. I know this isn't always an easy thing to do for us women especially, and it definitely takes practice, but having that confidence and belief in your own abilities is so important when you're starting out in finance.
