About Flannery

Flannery Tirtomihardjo serves as a marketing project manager at Intuit, managing the ads that appear in the QuickBooks product. She previously created and analyzed ads before advancing to project management, where she focuses on unblocking teams across engineering, design, and content. Her main area of expertise is marketing operations, ensuring campaigns are implemented correctly, maintaining analytics and performance, and coordinating with appropriate teams when needed. Flannery entered the tech industry in 2019 after graduating from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in psychology. Her early career included sales roles at various startups and DocuSign, beginning with an SDR position that taught her the value of targeting high-quality leads. After experiencing burnout in a highly demanding role, she pivoted to marketing and now prioritizes work-life balance, relationships, and self-care alongside her professional growth.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Flannery

01What do you attribute your success to?

It used to honestly be anxiety. It's changed recently, but for a really long time, it was anxiety that I would never be able to retire. And the anxiety be, like, the feeling of, I have to work really hard so that I can take care of my family one day, because, like, I mean, still, I am my mom's retirement plan. But it's a little... it's a lot better now. What drives me now... is... I think, overall. just, I know that I'm consistently building something. It's not overnight, you know, like... Like, I'm not gonna try to invest in some sort of crypto and expect it to. to boom. It's more... I... I have the mentality of every day I'm one step closer to building something great.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I think one of the first jobs I ever had in tech was in sales, and it was an SDR role had to call leads, And I was calling and calling and calling, and... It wasn't working, and my manager told me, how to... best sort out the leads. He's like, it's better to call 5 high-quality people versus Just 20 people you found. And I've carried that with me through everything. looking for a job. I comb through. the right housing. You know, I'll take the time to find the hiring managers or someone on that team to lead me to the right person to reach out to. In my job now as project manager, I'm constantly trying to find the right point of contacts for things. So, I will look. through previous documentation and, like, things like that. I think... Just, like, finding the right people to reach out to. Rather than, like, casting a wide net. Smarter, not harder, kind of thing.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think a lot of people get stuck on, like, for example, applying for a job. They're like, oh no, I don't know if I want it, or I don't know if I qualify. I think a lot of people don't give themselves the opportunity to even try. Doesn't mean when you apply for a job, you're gonna get it, you know? But, like, what if you did? Don't get it, but you'll learn, like, in that interview, what they're looking for, and it'll give you another... another starting point with more knowledge. I think my advice is to just try. It doesn't hurt, you know? If you don't know how, like, I spent so much time messaging random people on LinkedIn for advice when I was straight out of college, and so many people are willing to help. So many people are willing to share their knowledge.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

This has changed a lot for me over. New Years. I used to be very, very, very career-driven, and then... after I burned out a little bit, my values have definitely shifted. I think... I... My values are... To make sure my life, my relationships are flourishing. And that includes the relationship with myself, if. There was a point where I had a job, and I was working 7AM to, like, 11 p.m. I hated my life. And... I was getting paid really well for my age. It was not worth, yeah, waking up every day, hating my life, and... Yeah, I think... You're filling your own tank, learning for that self-care. Yeah, I think my... Values are very much... enjoy my life as best as I can. Of course, there's responsibilities. But those responsibilities shouldn't... Take over my life, and it shouldn't. For you, I'm... rethinking. Yes.
