Her Story

About Fontella

I have been working in childcare and entrepreneurship for over 13 years. I started my career with an in-home daycare, then moved into corporate America, and later served as a church administrator. After being diagnosed with breast cancer and completing treatment, my husband invited me to join him at Camp Flight Academy, the childcare center he had just started. Since coming on board, we have been flourishing together. My main areas of expertise include leadership, administration, organization, and entrepreneurship. In my role, I handle protocol, SOPs, HR for our staff, communications, payroll processing, accounting, and receivables and payables. It is multi-role work that keeps me busy. Beyond Camp Flight Academy, my husband and I have started several other businesses including an entertainment company and a transportation company. I am also a playwright and director of on-stage plays. My greatest accomplishment is working with children during our summer and winter productions, where kids serve as actors, dancers, singers, lighting crew, and scriptwriters. I pour into these children to help them flourish in their natural gifts and talents that God has given them. What inspired me to get into this field was my desire to change the lives of children by showing them there are different pathways in life beyond traditional schooling, including trade schools and the military, helping them tap into their natural abilities.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is that you cannot do it all yourself. You need people to help you. So many women, especially, try to do it all themselves, but you can't possibly do it yourself. You're going to need some help, you're going to need extensions. That's why God gave us arms and legs, because the body needs help. I think we as women just overextend ourselves, we overly do too much, and we just need to touch people to help us, and to push us, and to get us where we need to be. That's why God gave us friends, coworkers, and staff.
