Her Story

About Fran

Fran Tate is a retired healthcare professional with a distinguished 30-year career as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and an additional 10 years of experience as a Medical Outpatient Coder. During her healthcare career, she developed extensive expertise in laboratory medicine, medical coding, healthcare documentation, and the importance of accuracy and attention to detail in patient care. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), reflecting her continued connection to the healthcare professions and professional standards.

Today, Tate is focused on community leadership and advocacy in Tampa, Florida, where she has dedicated more than two decades to improving neighborhood safety and quality of life. Approximately 21 years ago, she founded a community safety watch group, and roughly 10 to 15 years ago, she organized a Community Neighborhood Association. Through sustained engagement with local government and transportation authorities, Tate successfully advocated for safer streets and improved public infrastructure, including helping secure 23 bus shelters throughout East Tampa. Her commitment to service also extends to supporting the Sickle Cell Anemia Society of Hillsborough County, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Moffitt Cancer Center Advocacy Team, as well as serving as a reading coach in local Title I schools and rescuing dogs in her community.

Tate credits much of her professional journey and success to a beloved cousin who inspired her to pursue a career in the medical field. Her leadership is grounded in her faith in God, commitment to family, service to others, and integrity. She believes meaningful community progress comes from listening to residents, building partnerships, and taking action on issues that directly affect families and neighborhoods. Building on her years of healthcare service and community advocacy, Tate is now seeking a seat on her local City Council, where she hopes to continue advancing the needs, safety, and quality of life of the community she has long served.
