About Francis
Francis serves as Merchandise Assistant Store Manager at Target, where she has worked in retail for five years after transitioning from healthcare. She began her career as a registered nurse with a bachelor's degree in nursing and later obtained licenses as a registered phlebotomist and lab technician, working at LabCorp and Quest. Seeking greater flexibility to care for her two teenagers with special needs, she moved into retail, starting as a cashier before advancing to her current role four years ago. Francis attributes her success to God and her children and values raising her family in a God-fearing environment while helping others whenever possible. She advises young women entering the workforce to choose careers with their hearts that they can be proud of long-term.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Francis
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success I attribute to God and my kids. My family is very complicated and they only help if money is involved, so it's my kids, God, and friends that I rely on. I want my kids to see that their mom worked hard for them.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say go with your heart. Even though I love being a nurse, it was not my choice, I followed my family's wishes. Choose a career with your heart, something you know in the long run you're gonna love and be proud of, something you can tell your kids you're proud of.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The constant change of prices due to the economy is hard to explain to customers. Also when they cut employee hours, it's difficult.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Raising my kids in a God-fearing family, helping others, and always being helpful to anybody even strangers. Always help the needy as much as you can, be grateful for what you have, and try to help when you can. You don't know when it's your turn.
