Her Story

About Francy

Francy Mitchell is a Houston-based Private Health Insurance Adviser with more than three decades of experience in the health insurance industry, beginning in 1988. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor’s degree in English, she first considered a career in law. After working closely with legal counsel and learning how the insurance process functions, she moved into marketing and sales with two major carriers, Aetna and Cigna. There she gained deep knowledge of how corporate benefits are designed and delivered.

Over the years, Mitchell has combined her passion for learning with her professional path. She earned a Master of Arts from Houston Christian University and became a Certified Academic Language Therapist. She also spent several years as an educator and English Department Chair, where she coached students to national and international writing recognition. She later served as Chief Marketing Officer at Dawson Financial, leading education-driven outreach and thought leadership. Her volunteer service with the American Heart Association and MD Anderson Cancer Center reflects her commitment to health and community.

Today, Mitchell focuses on the individual health insurance market, helping self-employed professionals, freelancers, business owners, and families across Texas understand their coverage options and make informed decisions. She sees herself first as an educator, guiding clients through plans, benefits, and access to care with clarity and compassion. Her interest in wellness, which began in her twenties and includes yoga and meditation training, shapes her belief in prevention and whole-person care. She shares that perspective through her Substack and her client work.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Francy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my commitment to education, my empathy for the people I serve, and my own personal growth. Learning to recognize my patterns, set firm boundaries, and stay true to who I am gave me the clarity and confidence to build my own business. I am in a very good place professionally and personally because of that work.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Believe in the possibilities, and never let anyone undermine your self-worth. Pay attention to your intuition and to the patterns in your life and work, and protect your energy and boundaries at all costs. Personal transformation is powerful, and it benefits both your health and your career. Above all, lead with empathy while staying grounded in your values.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Many individuals and families are uninsured or are stuck in plans with high deductibles and coverage gaps that leave them unable to access the care they need. Health care is also one of the largest unexpected expenses people face as they approach retirement. Mental health coverage is often capped at low limits, and there is little coverage for holistic care, preventive care, or women’s health needs such as menopause. The opportunity lies in education and in moving toward prevention, balancing Eastern and Western approaches to care. People also need guidance they can trust rather than relying solely on AI tools for major health and financial decisions.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Education, empathy, and kindness guide my work, along with a sincere desire to help individuals navigate a complex system. In my personal life I value authenticity, healthy boundaries, self-worth, and continued growth. I also value balance, in both health and life, and living in alignment with my higher purpose.
