Her Story

About Funmilayo

Funmilayo Oyeogbe is the founder of Purple Vegan, a wellness lifestyle brand she started two years ago after leaving her job following COVID with only her savings and investments. She began her career path studying movement science in college with the goal of becoming a gym teacher before shifting to business while continuing personal training at gyms including Lucille Roberts, Bally's, and Planet Fitness. Oyeogbe later spent eleven years in hospitality and finance roles handling bookings and payrolls, including work with the city, before pursuing her passion full time. She holds an NASM-certified Wellness Coach Certification obtained online to strengthen her expertise and serves as a notary. Through Purple Vegan she promotes intentional living with vegan skincare, natural supplements, and eco-friendly clothing aimed at improving overall well-being for all people, not just vegans, and she has expanded into digital books on wellness and meditation such as The 7-Day Mindset Reset. Oyeogbe attributes her success to her willpower and never giving up, along with being genuine, consistent, disciplined, and adaptable while maintaining a positive attitude and focusing on long-term progress. She is actively involved in her local community through volunteering and supports causes including the ASPCA, Animal Welfare Institute, Trevor Project, and Pride Parade coverage as an LGBTQ ally.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Funmilayo

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my willpower and never giving up. Being genuine, consistent, and disciplined with a genuine passion for helping others. Showing up, continuing to learn, staying committed, being adaptable, and maintaining a positive attitude while focusing on long-term progress rather than quick results.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to stay curious, continue learning, and believe in the value of what you bring. Building a career in wellness takes patience, consistency, and willingness to grow since it is always evolving. Focus on authenticity, develop relationships, know that helping others create positive changes is a meaningful responsibility. Trust your journey, do not be afraid to take up space, have more fun, and have faith over fear.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the wellness field is helping people create lasting lifestyle changes. People are motivated at the beginning but staying consistent with healthy habits can be difficult. Success comes from setting realistic goals, providing ongoing support, encouraging small sustainable changes rather than expecting overnight results. Educating more, having empathy, and helping people achieve long-term wellness.
