Her Story

About G.

I am Navajo from the Navajo Nation. My family has always been very community service oriented, and I was raised mainly by my grandmother who instilled values of needing to give to our Native communities. One of the biggest impacts was seeing Navajo homes without basic utilities in our flourishing country, so I wanted to bring water and electricity to our Native communities. For 27 years I have worked in tribal, state and federal government and private practice dedicated to serving tribal communities. In my role as water rights attorney I worked on securing three major congressional bills for water rights and infrastructure. I also serve as a tribal court judge.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It's a good profession but not always easy, and you have to have a thick skin. Remember why you're doing it and for who you're serving. Keep doing the work and having the conversations because the work you are giving will be felt by more than you. Anything is possible if you just keep putting your mind to it.
