Ten minutes with Gabriela
01What do you attribute your success to?
For me, something I've realized is you really have to do right by people. Something I learned early on in my career is if something doesn't make sense, or we can't offer the best solution to the client, then there's no need. That's why I work with other consultants. It's not about getting the next CEO or getting more for yourself, but it's truly doing the right thing by your customer and your client, and I think that's one of the things that has helped make me successful. Aside from that, it's really making yourself uncomfortable that allows you to grow. So I'm constantly saying yes to things that maybe I wouldn't want to say yes to, because it's just easier not to, and at the end of the day, you end up thanking yourself for making those decisions and putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. And lastly, it's really being disciplined and staying committed, playing the long game versus quick wins. That's something that has made a big difference also in my career, just really staying committed and being disciplined, even when things get hard.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to build and nurture a strong network, because meaningful relationships open doors to opportunities, partnerships, and valuable guidance throughout your career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say that anything that you do, try and be the best at it. Even if you are working for a company that's not yours, treat their business as your business, and be a true intrapreneur, I like to say, if you're not an entrepreneur. That's gonna show, I mean, you're gonna gain the experience, and you're gonna be relied on, and kind of be the A-plus employee anywhere you go. And that's really gonna help build your career. And then most important, it's just discipline. For me, it's not about motivation. I mean, we all get motivated, but something could happen, and then we feel demotivated, so really stick to your discipline, and think about your long-term goals. What it's going to take to get there and do that, no matter what.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges businesses face today is finding and retaining high-quality talent, while one of the greatest opportunities lies in nearshoring, which allows U.S. companies to access skilled professionals abroad, reduce costs, and build stronger, more scalable teams.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
For me, you really have to do right by people. Something I learned early on in my career is if something doesn't make sense, or we can't offer the best solution to the client, then there's no need. It's truly doing the right thing by your customer and your client, and I think that's one of the things that has helped make me successful. And lastly, it's really being disciplined and staying committed, playing the long game versus quick wins.
