Ten minutes with Gabriella
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to determination, adaptability, and a genuine desire to make a difference. My career path has not been conventional, starting as an investigator, then executive leadership at a nonprofit, then transitioning into academia. Each experience taught me leadership, resilience, and pursuing opportunities outside my comfort zone. I am deeply invested in my work on complex topics like mass violence and criminal behavior to develop prevention strategies. Success is also measured by watching my students succeed through mentorship, which is extremely meaningful to me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young people to be curious and ask questions and challenge themselves. It is important to get as many opportunities as possible and be different. Challenge yourself, ask those questions and pursue something that might feel outside of your comfort zone. Seeking out mentors is extremely important. Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed. When you achieve success, don't forget to reach back and help others out. You cannot be successful by yourself.
