Her Story

About Gabriella

Gabriella McLoughlin, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Temple University in the fields of implementation science and public health. She earned her Bachelor's of Science in the UK before completing her master's and PhD in kinesiology and public health at the University of Illinois, followed by postdoctoral fellowships that led to her faculty role. Over her 15 years in the field, McLoughlin has spent five years building her research lab at Temple, where she manages students and staff, oversees clinical trials, mentors emerging researchers, and collaborates with national and international partners to secure funding and expand the reach of her work. Her research emphasizes pragmatic, community-engaged solutions to food insecurity, health disparities, and health equity. She is a member of the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, where she serves as an associate editor for its journal, and the Global Implementation Science Society. McLoughlin attributes her success to hard work and supportive mentors, and she applies the career advice of climbing for herself while reaching back to bring students and colleagues along to conferences and networking opportunities.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Gabriella

01What do you attribute your success to?

Just hard work. A lot of hard work, and mentors that have really helped me as well along the way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

It's great to climb for yourself, but you have to also bring people up behind you. I reach back to help students and people I hire by bringing them to conferences and networking sessions.
