Her Story
About Gabriella
Gabriella Seiden is a senior pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland, where she has spent all four years of her studies. She entered the field approximately 3 to 4 years ago through her involvement with the MCAA and its MCAMW Student Chapter, which connected her to opportunities in the construction industry and led to her internships. In her current internship role, Seiden specializes in HVAC work, including drafting and 3D modeling of pipes and ducts within buildings, running calculations for friction loss and equipment sizing to meet building needs, and verifying compliance with relevant codes and gas standards. She has earned a SOLIDWORKS certification and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, qualifying her as an engineer in training. Seiden attributes her success to her hard work and the support of her family and friends, and she credits networking advice for helping her secure internships by encouraging her to pursue every opportunity and connect with others. Her interest in engineering stems from a lifelong passion for science and math, particularly understanding why systems function as they do.

Ten minutes with Gabriella
01What do you attribute your success to?
I guess like my hard work and like my support systems for like family and friends.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Probably like just to put yourself out there and try to just go for every opportunity even if you really don't think you'll get it and to try to talk to as many people as possible because I got all my internships through networking.
