Her Interview
Ten minutes with Gabrielle
01What do you attribute your success to?
My family and friends growing up in the Bay Area, seeing people of color who were successful artists making a living doing art, and my mentors in film school including Betsy Pollack and Leanne Hoffman, along with my experience at AFI which challenged me and gave me confidence.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Find your sense of community and the people you connect with. The people that you find talented now are the people you're going to find talented later, as heard from Greta Gerwig.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
If this is truly what you love, give it your all. Find your own path and find people that are going to support you and who connect with you. Find your community of women and people that will support you, persevere and move forward.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The profession is unstable with no conventional path or steps to follow, the market is constantly changing especially with AI and streaming, and it's not a glamorous job with long days and time away from family and friends.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Determination, passion, respect, and a sense of community building.
