Her Story
About Gabrielle
I've been in education publishing for 21 years, and since I was young, I knew I would always go into education. After graduating from the University of Maryland at College Park with my bachelor's in elementary education, I became a second grade teacher for Atlanta Public Schools for 4 years. While teaching, I completed my graduate program in reading education at Georgia State University. This teaching experience led me to education consulting for a test score company, and then I moved into the publishing world. I worked at McGraw-Hill before joining Benchmark Education 6 years ago as a sales representative. I work with all public, private, charter, and parochial schools in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia, partnering with central office teams as well as individual schools to provide high-quality materials for reading instruction. What I'm most proud of is helping school districts teach kids how to read by providing the materials that help teach young children how to learn to read.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Gabrielle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think just consistency, just being consistent in my approach to working with school districts. And just providing really top-tier customer support and being responsive. Building relationships, I think, is another great thing that has contributed to my success over the years.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, maybe to listen first. Listen to any concerns or problems, and then really guide your customers to a solution that would best fit their needs. It's about understanding what they need before jumping to solutions.
