About Gabrielle
Gabrielle Masson serves as senior editor at BioSpace, a B2B publication, for five months. She previously worked as senior editor at Fierce Biotech, advancing through positions as staff writer and associate editor after beginning her career reporting on healthcare during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Masson transitioned to biopharma writing after observing the industry's rapid development of vaccines and treatments. Before journalism, she conducted audits in quality and infection control at a hospital and completed two summers as an investigative intern at the Public Defender's Office. In her current position, she triages breaking news, edits stories, produces a podcast, curates daily and weekly newsletters, and specializes in coverage of stock market activity. She received a Biopharma Leaders of Color (BLOC) Award in June as an ally for women and leaders of color. Masson is passionate about highlighting women in the biotech C-suite and raising awareness of chronic illnesses through her work.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Gabrielle
01What do you attribute your success to?
My community. I have such a strong support system to lean on or go to when I'm looking for advice. I attribute a lot of the self-confidence I have to that constant support network.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't make yourself smaller. Be fearless even when you're uncomfortable, share your opinion and trust yourself.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Disinformation and misinformation are big challenges right now. The flip side of that means journalists have the opportunity to establish themselves as credible sources and make sure accurate information is accessible.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'm a very principle-driven person. Honesty and equity are probably the highest up there. Being authentic to yourself while lifting others up is what matters most.
