Her Story

About Gabrielle

Gabrielle Moore is a dedicated mental health and social work professional with approximately two years of experience supporting individuals across different stages of life. She currently works with youth in a behavioral health facility, where she maintains daily progress notes, conducts intakes and orientations, facilitates basic living skills sessions tailored to individual needs, participates in staff meetings, and supports therapists with monthly progress documentation and discharge planning. She is also completing an internship at a nursing home, where she provides services and support to older adults, further expanding her experience working with diverse populations.

Gabrielle’s passion for mental health and helping others began at an early age. Growing up, friends often referred to her as “the counselor” because of her natural ability to listen, provide guidance, and support those around her. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Troy University after completing a five-year program, initially pursuing a pre-medical focus with a minor in Chemistry. Her interest in mental health deepened through a summer internship with psychiatrists, where she observed client appointments, assisted with documentation, and gained firsthand exposure to mental health services and community healthcare initiatives. This experience ultimately inspired her to transition her academic and professional focus toward social work.

Currently pursuing a Master of Social Work, Gabrielle is committed to expanding her knowledge and developing the skills necessary to make a meaningful impact in the mental health and social services fields. She approaches her work with dedication, open-mindedness, compassion, and a commitment to continuous growth. As a mental health advocate and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, she is passionate about service, leadership, and empowering others. Her long-term goal is to continue building expertise in mental health and social work while advocating for individuals and communities who need support, guidance, and access to meaningful resources.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to remain willing to learn and adaptable to my environment. I have learned that flexibility is essential, especially when unexpected challenges or crises disrupt the day, and it is important not to become frustrated but instead remain calm and focused. I also believe in being observant, listening carefully, and staying open to learning from every experience. There is always something new to discover about the people around me, the environment in which I work, and the individuals I serve, and maintaining a mindset of curiosity and continuous learning has been invaluable throughout my career.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to develop a strong sense of self and have confidence in who you are and what you bring to the table. Confidence can make a significant difference, especially when entering environments where you may be surrounded by more experienced or seasoned professionals. Knowing your strengths, trusting your abilities, and recognizing your value can help you navigate those situations without feeling intimidated or questioning whether you belong. Believe in yourself, remain open to learning, and carry yourself with confidence and professionalism.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is helping people recognize when they need support and encouraging them to consistently use the tools, resources, and services available to them. Access to appropriate support can also be a significant barrier for some individuals. At the same time, my field offers tremendous opportunities for professional growth through continuous learning, evolving policies, and an expanding understanding of different disorders and needs. I value the opportunity to learn from other professionals and apply that knowledge to better serve my clients. What motivates me most is knowing that even one small, positive change or step can make a meaningful difference and potentially transform the course of someone’s life.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me in both my professional and personal life are accountability, respect, integrity, and continuous growth. In my work, I believe in taking responsibility for my actions, acknowledging mistakes, communicating openly, welcoming constructive criticism, and treating others with the same respect and consideration I expect in return. Personally, I strive to continue growing as an individual, maintain strong character and morals, and challenge myself to step outside my comfort zone. I also value humility, compassion, and the importance of not judging others, avoiding gossip and unnecessary drama, and choosing to lead with kindness, understanding, and authenticity.
