Her Story

About Gabrielle

Gabrielle Moreira serves as a senior social media specialist at VAST, where she manages editorial content for X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other platforms to highlight commercial space infrastructure development. With six years in space social media and eight prior years in journalism, she previously worked at NASA JPL, managing JPL’s social media platforms and serving as the lead social voice for the Curiosity rover, educating the public about Mars exploration through engaging posts and interactions. She also helped manage the Perseverance rover, Voyager, and NASA Mars accounts. Moreira earned her journalism degree from Cal State Northridge, where involvement in the school newspaper strengthened her writing and interviewing skills. She attributes her professional success to the support of her colleagues, especially women, bosses, friends, and family, and she values kindness, collaboration, and lifting others up in both work and personal life. Moreira advises women entering the male-dominated aerospace industry to stand up for themselves and each other to foster a more equitable environment.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Gabrielle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think what's helped me become more successful here is definitely the support from other women. And coworkers in general, I've had a lot of really great men who've been supportive and taught me new skills. It's the people that I surround myself with that have been helpful in that, and I've been lucky to have really great bosses and coworkers. I also have wonderful friends and family outside of that who've been supportive.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was from one of my bosses a long time ago. She told me that I really should learn to advocate for myself because no one else will... being the best advocate for yourself, especially at work, is important.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be as amazing as you can be. I am in an industry that is pretty male-dominated... I want women to just continue being who they are - stand up for yourself - and stand up for other women. We need to make sure that we all have a space for each other in this industry... the more of us that are here, I think the better this environment will be, and you know, the more equitable it can be for all of us.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's a lot of opportunity to really take people along on these journeys through space, science, and the development of space infrastructure. Some setbacks, I think, are too many cooks in the kitchen - having too many guardrails can hinder creativity and limit the stories that we want to tell to keep the public informed about what we're doing.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that I hold important to me at work and in my personal life: being kind to one another, trying to be understanding of one another and working together. Valuing different ideas is always really important... It's important to me to hear new perspectives and lift people up. I like to make sure that they are enjoying the work that we're doing the same way that I am, and that we're all working together well.
