Ten minutes with Gabrielle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a genuine commitment to people and a passion for leaving organizations better than I found them. HR is about far more than policies and compliance - it's about understanding people and building trust while cultivating those relationships. By building strong relationships across all levels of an organization, I've been able to help others navigate change, strengthen culture, and help leaders make better people decisions.
Ultimately, my success is measured by the trust I earn, the leaders I help develop, and the impact I make on the organization's culture and long-term success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Definitely don't wait until you're completely ready to take the next step. Growth really happens when we step outside of our comfort zones and take on challenges that stretch our capabilities.
Additionally, never underestimate the importance of emotional intelligence, especially as AI becomes more and more prevalent. A leader who has strong emotional intelligence stays calm under pressure, they communicate clearly, and they really create stability for employees when there's change going on or when circumstances are uncertain.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Build relationships based on trust and integrity. HR is a profession built on people, and your credibility will become one of your greatest assets.
Don't be afraid to take on challenges that stretch you outside your comfort zone. Some of the greatest opportunities for growth come from navigating uncertainty, leading change, and solving complex problems. Those experiences build confidence and prepare you for leadership.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think there is a lot of uncertainty about the role AI will play in HR as analyzing data and automating processes evolve, but I think there is a huge opportunity for HR professionals here because as AI becomes more prevalent, human skills will become even more important. AI cannot replace emotional intelligence, building trust, empathy, understanding human motivation, or inspiring people through change.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are transparency, continuous learning, and my family. These values guide how I show up as a leader, a colleague, and as a mom.
I strive to lead with transparency, empathy, and a strong understanding that behind every business decision are people who are impacted by those decisions. My approach has always been to listen first, communicate openly, and help create clarity during times of uncertainty. I also value continuous learning and growth. I think the best leaders remain curious, seek feedback, and embrace change as an opportunity to improve. Whether it is developing new skills, adapting to new technologies, or helping others reach their potential, growth is a lifelong journey.
Family is also a core value that shapes who I am. Being a mom has strengthened my perspective on leadership and empathy. It has taught me patience, resilience, the importance of being present, and the impact that our actions have on others.
