Gail Ernst

I spent almost 20 years working as a physicist at the laboratories before transitioning to run a farm where I took in animals that nobody wanted - whether they were sick or old, I would care for them with IV bags and work closely with a local vet who was my friend. Around 2006, all my animals gradually passed away, and that's when I moved in with Pete and sold the farm. I then worked at ADP for quite a while until I was forced to retire. My husband Pete was my biggest supporter throughout everything - he was an inventor and engineer who retired from Bell Laboratories, and when I retired, he encouraged me to pursue what I loved. He told me to call MIT and get my PhD in astrophysics, so for two weeks before he had his stroke, I was taking primary courses at MIT and he would join the lectures with me online. After he passed, I've been looking for purpose again, and I have an interview with a local church since one of my doctorates is in Divinity Studies. I'm also continuing to pursue astrophysics as a part-time hobby because I believe our next move as a species will be to space.
