Her Story

About Gail

Gail Gillespie built a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry spanning more than three decades. After earning her undergraduate degree in health education from Springfield College and teaching school for a few years, she leveraged her interpersonal skills and health and science background to enter pharmaceutical sales in 1980. She advanced to the role of Area Sales Director, consistently meeting quotas and earning President's Club awards. In her final eight years, she served as Commercial Compliance Officer for Teva, drawing on her ground-level sales experience to bring practical insight to the compliance function. A notable achievement was starting a market access team, hiring six team members, and establishing processes for optimizing contracts with insurers while fostering cross-functional alignment. Gail attributes her success to hard work, a willingness to sacrifice personal time, and an open mind toward opportunities such as lateral moves from sales into compliance. She was an active member of HBA and participated in Teva's global catalyst initiative focused on diversity and inclusion. Now retired, she remains engaged with Springfield College activities and serves on the scholarship committee of the Horticultural Society.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Gail

01What do you attribute your success to?

Hard work and willingness to sacrifice weekends and work late nights doing things others aren't willing to do. Having an open mind to opportunities like moving from sales to compliance, bringing ground-level experience to the role.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't try too hard - things come when the time is right and the universe lines up. Be patient and let the process play out. Be open to lateral moves to create a bigger footprint rather than always pushing forward.
