Her Interview

Ten minutes with Gail

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having a stupendous mother, a solid education, and the support of family, friends, and colleagues.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be willing to compromise in a variety of ways.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never lose sight of the world in which you live.; get your life in balance with what you believe and what you do... be yourself and be open to others.

Do what you like, what you’re passionate about - - but recognize that this does not always mesh with the “ real world.”

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Employment and self-support in the arts industries are continual problems!. Be willing to compromise, multi-task, follow solid opportunities, accept advice but consider its source. Admit that the arts might have to be an avocation alongside gainful employment.

Do not turn away from volunteer activities in the arts.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Relationships with people supersede all other considerations. Be straightforward and diligent in all aspects of my work. Always acknowledge the help and work of others.
