Her Story

About Gena

Gena Kidd is a self-employed Integrative Holistic Wellness Practitioner and licensed cosmetologist based in Shelbyville, Kentucky, with decades of experience in the beauty and wellness fields. She began her hairdressing career in 1993 after completing cosmetology school and 1,800 hours of training. Her passion for helping others led her into holistic wellness, beginning with spiritual development studies in 2015 and later expanding into energy healing, hypnotherapy, and life coaching.

Gena continued her professional development at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, where she earned diplomas in Mind Body Wellness and Integrative Healing Arts and certifications in Clinical Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, Transformational Life Coaching, and Spiritual Coaching. She is also a Certified Quantum Healing Hypnotherapy practitioner, Past Life Regression practitioner, and Usui Reiki Master and Teacher. Through Crystal Water LLC Integrative, she combines hypnotherapy, Reiki, life coaching, guided meditation, and other holistic modalities to help clients explore limiting beliefs, manage stress, develop healthier behaviors, and pursue greater personal and spiritual awareness.

Beyond her professional work, Gena is deeply committed to personal growth, creativity, family, and service to her community. She is a member of professional organizations including the National Cosmetology Association, the National Association of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, the International Medical and Dental Hypnosis Association, and the American Council of Hypnosis Examiners. Outside of her practice, she enjoys painting with acrylics and cooking and baking, particularly sourdough bread. She also donates her specialty bread to Tyson's Chance, where proceeds support a local animal shelter. Her healing work remains her passion, and she is dedicated to empowering individuals through compassionate, integrative approaches that support the mind, body, and spirit.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Gena

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the clients I’ve met throughout my hairdressing career, whose stories and life experiences have contributed greatly to my own growth and awakening. Through these connections, I gained clarity about my purpose and discovered that my greatest fulfillment comes from helping others.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is not to stand in my own way. I’ve learned that not everything needs to be figured out immediately—sometimes things unfold naturally as we grow, evolve, and navigate each experience to the best of our ability.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering the hypnotherapy field to do their research and choose the best accredited school or program they can find. A well-rounded education provides a strong foundation and prepares them with the knowledge and skills needed to build a successful career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is helping clients understand hypnotherapy and overcome doubts or misconceptions about it. Many clients come from backgrounds, including religious environments, that may influence how they view the practice, so building trust and helping them feel comfortable enough to let go and engage in the process is essential.
