Her Story
About Genai
I've been at Morgistown for 12 years, specializing in wealth management. Before entering finance, I worked in banking and played professional basketball for almost 8 years, traveling around the world. A typical day for me involves managing someone's finances day-to-day and handling money matters. I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics and health science, and my international travel helped me learn Spanish and a little bit of French, which allows me to communicate more efficiently with people. My most notable professional achievement is my staying power - being able to continue to grow year after year in an industry where there's not a lot of people who look like me. As a woman, black, and ex-athlete, every day presents challenges, but I've maintained constant work with a no days off mentality. I've received various awards at different times, most of them Women Leadership Awards.

Ten minutes with Genai
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to constant work - a no days off mentality. It's about consistent effort and never letting up, just maintaining that constant drive and dedication to what I do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is don't linger so long on a no or a rejection. It's important to keep moving forward and not let setbacks hold you back.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Make sure you're ready for it all. Make sure you ask a lot of questions - don't be afraid to seek understanding and clarity. And try to be on salary as long as you possibly can, as that provides more stability in your career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge I face is just being a woman, black, and an ex-athlete - it's an everyday challenge in this field. But the opportunity is continuous growth. There's always room to keep growing and expanding, and that's the biggest opportunity available.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Work-life balance is very important to me. I try to maintain that balance between my professional responsibilities and my personal life, though it's something I have to actively work at.
