Her Story
About Genesis
I'm originally from the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States 17 years ago as an immigrant. I studied cinematography based on production at Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo and participated in many commercials and movies in the Dominican Republic. When I came to the United States, I had to navigate different roles and careers. I started as a brand ambassador for Car2Go, which introduced me to micromobility, and ultimately became the marketing manager for the city of Miami. Over the past 15 years in the micromobility industry, I've worked with companies like Gotcha Mobility and Ofo Bike Share, launching programs all over the United States. I built operations from scratch, hired teams of over 15 individuals, and was very focused on female empowerment and hiring females to ensure equal opportunities in an operations management world that is mostly led by males. One of my most notable achievements was launching a program in Hawaii with 800 dock-free bicycles, building the operation from day one and leaving the market making significant revenue per day to the point that it was sustaining the whole company. I was even recognized by an hourly employee during a company-wide call, which was very exciting. Now I'm the manager of operations at Ascend Dental and Implant Center, where I'm leading the growth of the practice and continuing my commitment to empowering women and helping them build careers.

Ten minutes with Genesis
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The best advice that I could give someone who wants to jump on board in such a fast-paced and competitive environment is not to be afraid to speak up, and never lose sense of who you are, where you are, and where you want to be. More importantly, where you were, where you are, and where you want to be. Because it is very easy to lose yourself within all these different things that are out there, or like new men and different people trying to pull you to different sides. So never lose your essence as a person, because that will definitely take someone a long way.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
My challenges are always related to working in an environment that is mostly led by males. As a female, I've always had to work the hardest and I've always had to prove myself, regardless of how good I did a job. I've always had to make sure that I was respected, because if they see you saying this is not correct, it needs to be this way, then they label you a trouble maker. If they see you treating people too well, they say oh no, she's too sensitive. That's a challenge, understanding how to navigate it and making sure that I'm being respected and treated as an equal. In my last role, I was the only operations manager, let's say, out of 20 individuals. So I was the only female. But I was always focused doing what I have to do, and that led me to professional and personal growth on my end.
