Genevieve Coulson is a senior brand and social media leader based in Boulder, Colorado, known for building culturally relevant B2C brands through storytelling, partnerships, and community-driven strategy. She currently serves in leadership at Goldfish Swim School Franchising, LLC, where she oversees social-first marketing strategy across a national franchise system, helping translate brand identity into measurable growth and meaningful audience connection. A graduate of the University of Iowa, she brings more than a decade of experience spanning social media, brand strategy, and digital marketing leadership.

Across her career, Genevieve has built and scaled high-impact social ecosystems that blend organic content, partnerships, and user-generated storytelling. She has generated hundreds of millions of impressions, consistently driven top-tier share of voice within competitive categories, and developed programs that turn audiences into active brand communities. Her work includes launching social advocacy and influencer initiatives, building content infrastructures that reduce paid media dependency, and pioneering AEO (AI search optimization) approaches that align brand content with how discovery now happens across platforms like ChatGPT and other LLM-driven search environments.

Her leadership style is grounded in empathy, creative experimentation, and cross-functional collaboration, with a strong belief that the best brands earn trust through consistency and cultural relevance rather than trend-chasing. She has worked across industries including children’s education, health and wellness, and food and beverage, and is known for connecting storytelling with performance marketing outcomes. Outside of work, she values a lifestyle rooted in wellness and creativity, shaped by time living in both coastal Mexico and the mountains of Boulder, where she continues to explore the intersection of brand building, community, and human connection.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a willingness to take a courageous, non-traditional path early in my career. I’ve developed adaptability and the ability to work effectively across a wide range of brand voices. I consistently choose to take action even when I feel uncertain or afraid, which has helped me grow and move forward in challenging situations. I also focus on building scalable programs—such as social advocacy initiatives—that extend beyond social media and contribute to broader, measurable brand outcomes.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that I can be afraid and do it anyway. It has taught me to take action even when I feel uncertain, let go of the pressure to be perfect, and focus on learning through experience rather than waiting until I feel fully ready.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering my industry to start before they feel fully prepared, because fear and perfectionism can keep even highly capable people stuck for years. Growth comes from putting yourself out there, trusting your ability to adapt, and learning through experience as you go. I also encourage prioritizing authenticity in an increasingly saturated digital space—developing a personal voice, building genuine relationships, and leaning into individuality as a true professional strength.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As marketing enters a new era shaped by AI, evolving search behavior, and creator-driven ecosystems, the biggest challenge is staying relevant in an increasingly fast-moving and saturated landscape. At the same time, it presents a major opportunity to rethink how brands build trust and engagement. I remain focused on what matters most—creating work that helps brands form genuine, lasting connections with people rather than just chasing trends or visibility.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values in my work and personal life are persistence, adaptability, and authenticity. I’ve learned to grow through hands-on experience, overcome imposter syndrome and perfectionism, and take action even when I don’t feel fully ready. I also believe in embracing a non-traditional, entrepreneurial mindset—creating opportunities and paths for myself rather than waiting for them to appear.
