Genevieve Kennedy is a Renewable Energy Specialist and the Central Market Lead at Madison Energy Infrastructure, based in Chicago, Illinois. With a strong technical background and a passion for sustainability, she has spent several years driving the adoption of clean energy solutions, including distributed solar, utility-scale battery storage, and sustainability initiatives within traditional energy sectors. Her work focuses on turning innovative energy concepts into real-world projects that deliver tangible benefits for communities and stakeholders across the Midwest. Throughout her career, Genevieve has demonstrated expertise in market development, project finance, and strategic stakeholder engagement. She began her professional journey in environmental consulting within the oil and gas sector, then transitioned into residential solar sales, followed by large-scale energy storage development across the United States. This diverse experience has allowed her to develop a unique perspective on the intersection of technology, business, and sustainability, positioning her as a trusted leader in renewable energy development and distributed generation markets. Genevieve holds a Bachelor of Science in Multi-/Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Atmospheric Science from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. She is an active member of WRISE (Women in Renewable Energy and Sustainability) and has been recognized by Influential Women as a representative for Chicago, Illinois (2026 edition). Outside of work, she enjoys outdoor recreation, volleyball, attending Cubs games, and spending time with her cats.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to combining strong technical expertise with effective communication. I strive to make complex energy concepts accessible and relatable, which allows me to bridge technical solutions with real-world adoption. My ability to operate across different sectors of the energy industry—renewables, storage, and sustainability within traditional energy—has enabled me to adapt quickly and make meaningful contributions.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from leaders in renewable energy, sustainability, and market development who showed me how to navigate complex technical industries while creating meaningful impact. Their guidance shaped my approach to leadership and reinforced my commitment to advancing sustainable solutions.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don’t be intimidated if you’re the only woman in the room. Speak up with confidence, pursue opportunities without counting yourself out, and trust that persistence and ambition will pay off.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Scaling renewable energy and storage solutions fast enough to meet growing demand remains a significant challenge, especially with regulatory complexity and infrastructure limitations. At the same time, there is tremendous opportunity in expanding battery storage, distributed generation, and sustainability initiatives across traditional energy sectors. The transition to clean energy presents space for innovation, collaboration, and leadership that connects technical solutions with practical adoption.
