Her Story
About Georgette
I work as an English supervisor at a high school with 1,500 students, which takes up a lot of my time and energy. In the evenings, I've been doing coaching for about 10 years. What really triggered me to become a certified coach was going through a very severe depression myself. For some reason, I was able to believe that I could feel better - I knew I had vitality before in my life, and I stuck to that. Even though I went to therapy and tried different medications, it was really understanding the law of attraction, like attracts like, and being positive that helped me start that journey to feeling as good as I do today. Now I give webinars every week, and most of my webinars focus on issues that women struggle with, definitely confidence and courage - those two words come up all the time in my coaching. I also do workshops on releasing negative emotions, forgiving, and letting go, because what I learned from my depression is that even though I wanted to manifest a business and different things in my life, because I was so depressed and angry and carrying around negative baggage, things weren't shifting for me. A lot of my one-on-one coaching involves women who just don't know how to get unstuck, how to move their marriage forward, or whether to get divorced - just a lot of questions like that where people are struggling and don't have the skills to make the changes they need in their lives. I feel like I'm a wise sage helping guide them.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to never giving up and believing in yourself so deeply that whatever you want will come to you. That's probably the most important thing - just never give up. What I've learned from going through my own severe depression and severe bouts of anxiety is that pain is what makes you grow. I was able to believe that I could feel better, and I stuck to that. I knew I had vitality before in my life, and I just kept believing I could feel better. It was really understanding the law of attraction, like attracts like, and being able to focus on positivity that helped me start that journey to feeling as good as I do today. I feel like we have ultimate control of so many parts of our life, and you just need those skills to do it. You need to see where you're at, figure out what to do next, and then own it - own your decisions, own your choices. That takes you out of the victim mentality and really helps you start that journey to feel courageous and confident.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to just never give up. Believe in yourself so deeply that whatever you want will come to you. Never give up.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I don't look at anything as challenges anymore. What I've learned from going through my own severe depression and severe bouts of anxiety is that when you help people, you're guiding them, but everybody has to do it at their own pace. Some people call for coaching and take off quickly. Other people who are severely depressed or anxious, I could be coaching for 2 years, because it has to be gentle, and it's not a reflection of anybody, not my coaching or them. Your mind can only handle so much, so you have to really respect people's pace and where they're at. You can give people great advice - it's easy for you to give the advice - but they have to be ready to do it. If I wasn't as experienced as I am, that would be a challenge for me, like not feeling like people grow fast enough, but that's not realistic. What's realistic is everyone has their own pace, and we have to honor it, be compassionate and respect it. I think that's how people love coaching with me, because I really do provide that energy of compassion and understanding, because I've obviously been through so much myself.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value hard work. I value that you need to know and be very clear on your goals - what are you looking for, what do you want? I journal every single morning about what I want, so I'm always very clear. I find that if I don't do that, I'm all over the place. I feel like we have ultimate control of so many parts of our life, and that you need those skills to do it. In the past, I would have been a victim of a lot of things, but you're not a victim. You just need to see where you're at, figure out what to do next, and then own it. Own your decisions, own your choices. I think that takes you out of the victim mentality and really helps you start that journey to feel courageous and confident. That's really important to me - that people understand there's no magic, there's no la-la, it's really about getting very clear on what you want, and then even if you're depressed or anxious, you can take baby steps, and you just stay focused, and you're not a victim. You're not blaming other people, you just own your choices and decisions. I think that's probably what I value the most. That has the most effect on me in my life.
