About Georgina
I'm a medical technologist who worked in a hospital setting for about 12 years before one of the vendors approached me to work for them. I went through their interview and became an application specialist, then moved into IT with the vendors. This has been a wild transition, where you start in the medical field not knowing much about IT, and on the job you start learning the backgrounds of how everything works. In my current position as lead implementation consultant for Roche Diagnostics, my main focus is auto-verification for hospital settings. My key responsibilities include helping my team with any issues, because every hospital has different criteria - a transplant hospital versus a pediatric hospital have very different processes and workflows, so we have to figure out how to write their workflow in our systems. I help with troubleshooting and escalations when customers are questioning why a result behaved the way it did. I also work with hospitals on standardization, sitting with multiple hospitals owned by the same affiliation to help them standardize as much as possible while allowing individual hospitals to tweak things to meet their population of patients. My day today is never the same - every day brings probably a new challenge, a new concept, so it's something that evolves quite a bit. When I first started with Roche Diagnostics 10 years ago, I was a team of 2, and right now we're a team of 20. I've been mentoring everyone, building the standardization for the company, helping identify the needs, and trying to make this a better place for everyone.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to always pursue what you have a passion for.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering my industry to follow their dreams, whether it's something they feel is unrealistic. A lot of times, we discourage ourselves because we think it's so far-fetched that there's not a possibility we could do it, but if they follow what they truthfully want, they could achieve it. I would encourage them to try to see if there's a way they could make it happen, even when it seems impossible.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is the most important value to me in my work and personal life.
