About Georgina
Georgina Nieves is the Assistant Principal at a school in the Bronx, New York. She began her career in education in 2008 as a pre-K aide immediately after completing her bachelor's degree in History with a minor in English Literature from the University of Mount St. Vincent. Over the subsequent years, she worked in childhood education at a pre-K through 8 school for nine years before transitioning to her current school, where she has spent the past decade. Within a year of joining, she took on summer school principal duties, which inspired her to pursue further credentials including an MST in Childhood Education from Pace University and an MSEd in Educational Leadership from Fordham University, completed in 2022, along with New York State Building Leader certification. She is now in the final stages of a doctoral program at the American College of Education, with expected completion in December 2026. In her role, Nieves strategically oversees admissions, coordinates student schedules with the guidance department, collaborates with school leadership on vision and partnerships, and spearheads student life initiatives such as the New York Encounter Club to provide cultural experiences. She takes particular pride in the school's growth from 218 to nearly 300 students and in creating leadership opportunities for students. Beyond her professional duties, Nieves serves as a director on the Alumni Board of the University of Mount St. Vincent and has received the Sisters of Charity of New York Tribute Award in October 2025 as well as recognition as Ambassador of Education for the Yonkers Puerto Rican and Hispanic Day Parade in June 2025.
