Her Interview
Ten minutes with Geri
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my mom, who raised three children on her own while working for very little and never missing an important moment in our lives. Growing up in poverty and experiencing bullying taught me resilience, while watching my mom overcome challenges gave me the strength, determination, and ability to persevere through difficult situations.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
To never forget me, my goals, my achievements, and the value I bring to the table.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always remember that there is opportunity in every setback, and you will experience setbacks, but always look for the positive in those situations.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is finding and maintaining a healthy work-life balance while continuing to meet the needs of those I serve. At the same time, there are tremendous opportunities for individuals to get involved, give back, and volunteer for the causes that are near and dear to their hearts. Finding sustainable ways to balance our personal and professional lives while creating meaningful opportunities for people to contribute, connect, and make a difference is an important part of moving the field forward.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Serving others and supporting my family, friends, and the broader community. Responding to the needs of those who serve us all. And, most importantly, ensuring that those who have answered the call to serve have the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive and overcome the barriers they encounter along their journey.
