About Gerlicia

Gerlicia Thompson is a nonprofit development and social services professional with extensive experience in domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy. She currently serves as Development Manager at the Family Crisis Center, where she has worked for the past eight years in prevention and crisis-support services. Her career in nonprofit work spans at least ten years, during which she has also supported the Bastrop County Black Chamber of Commerce in educating and building up Black businesses and individuals, run the DJ Blink Foundation to advance educational resources for underserved communities, and co-pastored Christian Interactive Fellowship. Thompson originally began as a Prevention Specialist and attributes her success to her faith in God. She holds associate degrees in child development and biblical backgrounds. A notable achievement includes speaking at the National Sexual Assault Conference this year, where she bridged her passions for sexual assault advocacy and faith work in Black communities. She emphasizes being authentic and acting as helpers to others in her career advice.

01What do you attribute your success to?

Honestly, God. My faith is really big to me, and I know that a lot of the doors that I have stepped through probably would not have been able or been capable without him, to be completely honest.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Being your authentic self... especially when you're in relationship building entities and nonprofit work... being your authentic self and bringing your thoughts, your concepts to the table... find the helpers... be the helpers. Recognizing that people are human first...
