Her Story
About Giselle
Giselle CardonaMiroff serves as a care manager in the Hudson Valley region of New York, where she has worked for a little bit over four years. She began her healthcare career after COVID as a PrEP educator and sexual health prevention specialist, connecting with communities and interdisciplinary teams to teach about HIV prevention. This role led her to case management for individuals at risk of contracting HIV and later for people living with HIV, where she promoted health and held space for patients who often lacked support systems. After her own maternity leave and birth experience in 2024, Giselle became a certified birth and postpartum doula one year ago, recognizing the importance of advocacy and community support for women during pregnancy and postpartum. She is now starting her master's program in the fall to pursue a Master of Social Work, with a focus on maternal mental health, policy, and expanded advocacy. Giselle aims to develop her doula business while building networks to refer clients and better support women through emotional, educational, and systemic means.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Especially as a newer doula, it's easy to feel like you don't belong when meeting women with 10-15-20 years experience. Know that if your heart posture is in alignment with serving other women, then you're in the right space. Don't compare yourself. Not every client is meant for you and that's okay because birth is sacred. The clients meant for you will come.
