Ten minutes with Gladys

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to never giving up. Even when it's difficult to find jobs in the field, I kept going instead of shifting to other careers like some others did.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My mentor always used to say, we learn more from listening.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Make sure you know that is what you want to do. It's not the easiest to get a job because it's closely related with architecture. Major cities would be the best place to have a job for interior design. Make sure you have a plan in place to live nearby where there's a market for interior design, as commuting through metropolitan areas like LA can be difficult.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Keeping up with all the latest software programs companies use for design and architecture.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is most important to me in both work and personal life.
