I attribute my success to perseverance, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to serving others. Throughout my career, I have embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, and take on new challenges. My 13 years in the corporate sector taught me discipline, accountability, and the importance of strong financial and operational foundations, while my transition into nonprofit leadership has taught me the deeper value of purpose-driven work.

I also believe success is built through relationships, integrity, and a willingness to lead while remaining open to learning. I have never been afraid to step outside my comfort zone, solve problems, or take a hands-on approach when needed. Most importantly, I strive to use my knowledge and experience to positively impact others. For me, success is not simply measured by professional accomplishments, but by the difference I can make through my work, the people I support, and the communities I have the opportunity to serve.

“When you do a good job, people notice.” That advice has stayed with me throughout my career. It taught me that you don’t always have to seek recognition or announce your accomplishments, when you consistently show up, do your work with excellence, and take pride in what you do, the right people will notice.

I’ve carried that mindset through every stage of my career. Whether working in corporate or nonprofit leadership, I’ve learned to focus on being dependable, giving my best, and seeking ways to improve. I believe your work ethic speaks for you, and a strong reputation is built through consistency, integrity, and results.

You never know who is watching, who may need your expertise in the future, or what opportunity may come from simply doing your job well. Do the work, do it well, and let your work speak for itself.

Believe in your abilities and never be afraid to take up space at the table. You don’t have to know everything when you begin, but you should always be willing to learn, ask questions, and challenge yourself to grow.

Build your expertise, but also build relationships. The people you meet throughout your career can become mentors, advocates, colleagues, and lifelong connections. Be willing to take on opportunities that stretch you, even when you don’t feel completely ready.

I would also encourage women not to underestimate the value of doing excellent work. Your consistency, integrity, and work ethic will build a reputation that can open doors for you. There will be moments when you may question yourself, but don’t allow self-doubt to convince you that you aren’t capable of achieving your goals.

Most importantly, stay true to who you are. You can be ambitious and successful while still leading with compassion, authenticity, and purpose. Your voice, perspective, and experiences are valuable, so use them.

Capacity. Nonprofit organizations are often doing incredibly important work while operating with limited financial and human resources. Teams are frequently asked to accomplish more with fewer resources, which can make it challenging to maintain strong systems, support staff, and continue growing programs.

At the same time, I see this as a tremendous opportunity. When organizations invest in strong financial management, efficient operations, technology, and their people, they can increase their capacity and ultimately expand their impact. I believe there is an opportunity for nonprofit leaders to think creatively about how to maximize the resources they have while building sustainable systems for the future.

From my perspective, finance and operations play an important role in that process. When the infrastructure behind an organization is strong, program teams are better positioned to focus on the mission and the communities they serve. The opportunity is to build organizations that are not only passionate about their mission, but also financially sound, operationally sustainable, and equipped to grow their impact.

Consistency, relationships, and staying grounded. I believe in doing what is right, treating people with respect, and being someone others can depend on.

I also believe in remembering the basics. In a world that can become increasingly complicated and fast-paced, sometimes the best approach is to step back, simplify, and focus on what truly matters. At work, that means staying organized, communicating clearly, following through, and taking care of the people and responsibilities entrusted to me. In life, it means appreciating the people around me, being present, and not losing sight of what brings meaning and joy.

And just as importantly, don’t forget to have fun! Success and hard work are important, but so is enjoying the journey. I believe we do our best work and live our best lives when we take what matters seriously while still making room for laughter, joy, and the people who make the journey worthwhile.
