About Gloria
Gloria Zarate-Dominguez is a talented graphic designer, illustrator, and UI designer with a strong foundation in creative arts and digital design. She currently serves as Creative Editor at STAR Scholars Network, where she develops engaging visual content for prospectuses, presentations, infographics, and event materials. Gloria’s work demonstrates a keen eye for detail and a passion for transforming complex ideas into compelling visual stories.
Her journey into graphic design began with a Christmas gift—a book that inspired her to explore the field—paired with a high school SciViz class that sparked her interest in visual storytelling. Gloria pursued formal education in Studio Arts and Graphic Design at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, following an Associate of Arts degree from Cape Fear Community College. Alongside her academic achievements, she gained practical experience working as a retail associate at Vintage Values Thrift Stores, where she honed her skills in customer interaction, visual merchandising, and community engagement.
Gloria’s most notable accomplishment came early in her career, when she completed a full prospectus project as a volunteer at STAR Scholars Network, solidifying her professional identity as a designer. She credits her mentor, Dr. Keith Wright, for guiding her growth and encourages aspiring designers to persevere, embrace challenges, and seek mentorship. Gloria continues to navigate the evolving design landscape with dedication, creativity, and a commitment to producing meaningful and impactful visual experiences.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to Keith Wright, the co-director of a program within the Star Scholars Network, whose guidance and support helped me secure valuable opportunities.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering this industry to persevere, recognizing the challenges posed by AI while taking the time to develop their skills and build a strong foundation for success.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are persistence and the guidance of mentors, such as Dr. Wright, whose support has been invaluable.
