Ten minutes with Gwendolyn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my faith, perseverance, education, and commitment to serving others. Throughout my journey in education and ministry, I have consistently sought God’s guidance and trusted Him to lead me through each season, including the challenges that required patience, resilience, and determination. I believe in identifying what I am passionate about, taking the time to explore the opportunities available, and then having the courage to begin. My success has also been shaped by a lifelong commitment to learning, teaching, mentoring, and helping others discover their purpose. Ultimately, I remain grateful for the experiences and opportunities that have allowed me to use my gifts in service to God, my community, and the people I am called to support.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received has come through the lessons and experiences God has placed along my journey. My faith has been my strongest source of guidance, teaching me to remain grounded, continue learning, and trust God’s direction even when the path was not always clear. Throughout my years in education, ministry, chaplaincy, and community service, I have also learned from the educators, ministers, community leaders, and many individuals I have had the privilege of serving. Their experiences have reminded me of the importance of staying open to growth, remaining committed to my calling, and using my gifts to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering ministry or any service-oriented profession to choose an area that genuinely reflects their passion and purpose. Do not be afraid to get started simply because you do not have everything figured out in the beginning. Pay attention to the opportunities available to you, remain willing to learn and grow, and be intentional about pursuing the doors that open along the way. Most importantly, seek God’s guidance throughout every level of your journey and trust Him to provide the wisdom, strength, and direction you need to fulfill your calling.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunity I see in ministry today is reaching people who desire a deeper spiritual connection but may not necessarily seek it within traditional church environments. More people are exploring questions of faith, spirituality, and purpose through personal Bible studies, community settings, conversations, and social media, which creates an opportunity for ministry leaders to meet people where they are. I believe we have a responsibility to make spiritual guidance accessible, relevant, and welcoming while helping individuals develop an authentic foundation of faith. My own work through chaplaincy and community outreach reflects this approach by bringing ministry beyond church walls and providing encouragement, resources, guidance, and support to people wherever they are in their journey.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are faith, service, compassion, education, perseverance, community, and empowerment. I believe in helping people recognize their God-given purpose while developing a genuine and meaningful relationship with God. I also value the power of women supporting, encouraging, and recognizing one another, because connecting with like-minded women can create opportunities for growth, empowerment, and achievement. Through my work and community involvement, I strive to lead with compassion, remain committed to serving others, and use my experience and knowledge to encourage people wherever they are in their journey.
