Hailey Allison Laygo

Hailey Allison Laygo is an emerging engineering professional and student at San Diego Mesa College, where she is pursuing an Associate of Science in Civil Engineering while developing her interests in mechanical engineering, robotics, and autonomous vehicles. After discovering her passion for robotics during a general engineering course, she transitioned her academic focus toward mechanical engineering and hands-on technical projects. She currently serves as a Mechanical Engineer intern with MesaFSD, collaborating with students from multiple engineering disciplines to design and build a self-driving go-kart for a national racing competition. Through this experience, Hailey continues to strengthen her engineering knowledge, technical analysis, and problem-solving abilities.

In addition to her engineering work, Hailey is actively involved in student organizations that promote professional development, collaboration, and greater representation in STEM. She serves as Social Media Manager for the Women in STEM Club at San Diego Mesa College, creating digital and print materials to promote events and increase awareness of opportunities for women pursuing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers. She is also involved with the college's Full-Self Driving Club, Engineering Club, and Honors Society. Hailey values mentorship and networking, recognizing the importance of supportive relationships in navigating academic and professional transitions. She credits her school advisor, Robert, with providing valuable guidance as she adjusted to studying and pursuing opportunities in San Diego.

Beyond engineering, Hailey is a creative individual with interests in graphic design, video production, fine arts, and creative writing. Her artistic abilities have earned recognition from the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, including a Silver Medal in Fine Arts in 2024. She has also demonstrated a commitment to community service through volunteer work with animal welfare and social action organizations. Looking ahead, Hailey plans to transfer to a four-year university to continue her engineering education and pursue a career focused on robotics, autonomous vehicles, and innovative technologies. With her combination of technical curiosity, creativity, and commitment to collaboration, she hopes to contribute to engineering solutions that address real-world challenges and create a positive impact on society.
