Her Story
About Hailey
I currently work for NYU Langone in the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries and am the head athletic trainer for Dance Theater of Harlem. Part of my contract involves overseeing the professional ballet company both in New York City and on the road while they tour. I grew up as a dancer and pursued healthcare after getting a minor in modern dance and a BS in Kinesiology from the University of Utah, followed by a master's in athletic training. I specialize in injury evaluation, rehabilitation, and prevention for performing artists.

Ten minutes with Hailey
01What do you attribute your success to?
I am incredibly thankful that I am an incredibly curious person, and I love learning about the world around me, and that motivates me to work hard. My ability to be disciplined and have a really high work ethic really stems from the fact that I love what I do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Build your network and connect with people. It's been incredibly influential in my ability to do what I do and where I've gotten so far.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Trust your gut and go for it despite what people say. Remember what the goal is at the end of the day, keep that in perspective of what you truly want, and whether you get there in 1 year, in 4 years, in 5 years, it doesn't matter. If it's what you want to do, you put your heart to it, and you put in the work to get it done.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Imposter syndrome was a big challenge, especially being a young clinician in charge and doing international travel as the only healthcare provider. Opportunities include the multifaceted nature of athletic training allowing many directions, and eventually pursuing a PhD in research.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Communication is always number one for me. Also honesty and transparency and humility. Valuing self-confidence more often, especially overcoming imposter syndrome.
