Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the 23 years I have spent in my field and to my enduring love of art. Recently, I was diagnosed as neurodivergent, with ADHD and dyslexia, and this journey of self-discovery has reinforced how important creative expression has always been in my life. Art has been my way of communicating, exploring, and understanding myself. Earlier this month, I took a leap of faith and opened my own business, and I am excited and fully committed to growing Light Studio and sharing my passion with others.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that I can make a difference. I was fortunate to have an incredible mentor, Mike Harkey, who taught me everything I needed to know about architectural lighting and gave me the confidence to embrace my talent and share it with others. His guidance empowered me to step into my own abilities and pursue my career with purpose and courage.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: You can be successful, even in a male-dominated field. Believe in your skills, trust your expertise, and don’t be afraid to take up space and share your voice. Confidence, persistence, and a willingness to learn will carry you far.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As a new business owner—just 22 days in—one of the biggest challenges I face is building visibility and promoting my work. At the same time, this is also an incredible opportunity to share my passion with a wider audience. I’m encouraged by past recognitions, including the Honorable Mention from the Clinton Foundation in 2025 and the IES Award in 2017, which motivate me to continue pushing forward and growing my business.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are authenticity, passion, and balance. I strive to build a career that allows me to fully express myself while also being a present and supportive mother. Being a role model for my 10-year-old daughter is a guiding principle in everything I do—I want her to see the value of pursuing her passions with dedication and integrity.
