Her Story

About Haley

I've been in my field for about 8 to 9 years now. I started with a Bachelor's of Arts in Graphic Design, which is kind of where I began, and then I did marketing for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service outside of my college career. While in college, I worked for the University Journal Magazine, so I had some editorial experience there, and I also worked in a sign and design shop. From there, I went back to marketing and communications and kind of delved more into multimedia, not just graphic design. Now I do pretty much strategic communications and media, leading the communications and media for a couple of statewide events. One of them is the Utah Summer Games, and another is the One Utah Summit. They are statewide initiatives and programs that fulfill the communities in Utah, one for leadership and business, and the other for just local community and athletes. My greatest achievement has been learning how to navigate being a working mom with two little children, a toddler and a baby, and figuring out how to be a really good mom while also being a working mom and finding fulfillment in both of those paths.

Ten minutes with Haley

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my support, that I have my villages, both at home and at my workplace. I wouldn't be as successful as I am without the people who have supported me along the way. The most impactful thing to shape my career path has been the mentors that I've linked up with, both in school and just in my workplace. I've been able to align people who just inspire me every day, and who see my self-worth in ways that I didn't see, necessarily, and then they helped me grow. I say they steady the ladder that I'm on and go through the hard times with me. They don't just leave me out there in the open and say good luck. They're in the trenches with me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to always be a learner, and never assume that you know everything. Just take every experience that you can, because there's something to learn from it, even if it seems like it's not gonna go anywhere, or it's just a waste of time. There's probably someone that you can learn from, or an opportunity that will come out of it that you will enjoy.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Personally, I connect with the artists in the world, and so I think artists are kind of afraid of AI and artificial intelligence. It's kind of a scary thing right now, because a lot of people think that artificial intelligence is gonna take all the jobs. But I think people don't necessarily need to be worried about that, because AI can't replace the human touch that real artists can give.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Patience. I'm a very patient person, and I can tend to be level-headed and just cool-minded, because I'm a mother of two little toddlers. And nothing can scare me, so bring it on.
