Her Story

About Haley

Haley West serves as Director of Rehab, a position she has held for approximately two and a half years after transitioning from her role as a therapist, which she began in 2021. Her path into the field started as a college athlete interested in athletic training, but she ultimately pursued physical therapy after guidance from an athletic director. After multiple attempts to enter physical therapy school, she completed physical therapy assistant school and worked as a therapy tech in an outpatient clinic before discovering her passion for geriatrics, acute care in hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities. In her current leadership role, West focuses on problem-solving, supporting her team and residents, and occasionally treating patients while driving strong performance metrics. She recently received the Chief Therapy Officer Award for her efforts in helping others and led her building to earn its first flag award for exceptional therapy, nursing, and financial metrics in seven or eight years. West credits her success to her commitment to seeing everyone succeed, her enjoyment of teaching, and her ability to adapt to different individual needs rather than expecting a single approach.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Haley

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think I'm a little anal to the point where I just want everyone to succeed. The teaching aspect is what I enjoy most. Helping people in general is what I really enjoy, so wanting everyone to succeed. It took me a long time but realizing that everyone's way of succeeding is different and that's okay. It doesn't have to be my way, and just being able to adapt to what everyone needs.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Diving in and doing this because no one's ever ready to do a lot of things in life. But you just have to dive in and do it and see if it sticks basically. And if it doesn't that's okay too. You're just gonna figure out what's best for you in this life.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In the therapy world in general a lot is changing. I feel like a lot of it is generational. A lot of people expect a lot handed to them and trying to kind of break through that with them and letting them understand we do have to work a little bit to get what we need. The mental health side of things as well I feel like it's just so prominent now. Bridging that gap between young new grads and older therapists who have been around for 20 plus years and understanding different needs.
