Her Story

About Hallie

I'm a full-time astrologer running my own business, Astrology with Hallie, where I do astrology consultations both virtually and in person out of my home. I've been in this field professionally for about 2 years, and full-time for about a year. What drew me to astrology was my own transformative experience with it during the pandemic when I turned 30 and was going through an identity crisis. Astrology helped me with self-validation and finding my purpose, and I discovered I was really good at it, so I started helping others. My typical day involves starting with outreach to ideal clients and partners, keeping conversations going, and then later doing back-end admin work, prep work for readings with clients, or the meetings themselves. The biggest challenge in my field is that it takes time to develop trust with people so they want to open up and go deep with me about their life purpose and their chart. It's also a privilege because there's very little opportunity to just get hired as a professional astrologer somewhere - you kind of have to go out on your own. I attribute my success to my background as a freelance actor and artist for over 10 years, where I was running my own business without realizing it. I have no problem putting myself out there, getting told no, being the center of attention, or being put on the spot, and my willingness and desire to go deep and understand people makes me easy to talk to and helpful.

Ten minutes with Hallie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I actually attribute my success to my background as an actor. I was a freelance actor and artist for over 10 years, and I didn't realize that I was running my own business, but I was. So I have no problem really putting myself out there, getting told no, being the center of attention, being put on the spot - I'm fine with that. I also attribute my success to my willingness and desire to go deep and understand people. I think that's why people find me easy to talk to and helpful. The best advice I've been given is to get in front of people and start talking to people, because I have a lot of skills that are not always easy or clear on paper. But once you get to know me and start talking to me, you realize how much I have to offer.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to get in front of people. For me personally, this has been crucial because I have a lot of skills that are not always easy or clear on paper. Once you get to know me and start talking to me, you realize how much I have to offer. So just getting in front of people and starting to talk to people has been the most valuable advice I've been given.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say do it. Based on a lot of things, including the actual astrology, astrology is one of the ways of the future, and it's only becoming more ubiquitous. It's a billion-dollar industry. Even though it seems to some folks like a very non-traditional, non-secure job path, I actually think a lot of things are opening up and going in that direction, and the old way of being and working is actually kind of crumbling, at least parts of it. So I think it's actually a wise thing to do. My advice is to commit to your own point of view and not lean into the fear-based approach. I don't follow the clickbait stuff online - I don't think that's very spiritually sound. Committing to your own point of view and not leaning into fear is going to create longevity, because then your career will be based in love and truth, not clickbait and fear.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I read a book last year called Democracy in Retrograde that helped me really define my values. Right now, my values are liberation - the idea that we are not all free until we are all free. They are intentionality, because clarity is kindness. Being in the moment and being intentional is really important to me. And compassion, because I think that being compassionate and connecting to other living beings is kind of the best part about being alive. So that's a value that I have.
