Hallie Jones
Hallie Jones, CST, CSFA, AAS, is a dedicated surgical professional at Mercy Health in Toledo, Ohio, whose journey in healthcare reflects resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to patient care. Beginning her career in housekeeping over a decade ago, Hallie steadily advanced through patient transport and nursing support roles, ultimately finding her calling in Surgical Technology. Along the way, she spent 12 years as a licensed cosmetologist, honing her attention to detail and interpersonal skills—qualities that have seamlessly translated into her work in the operating room.
Hallie spent five years as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) before becoming a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), a role she has held for the past year. She credits her growth to the nurses and colleagues who encouraged and supported her, helping her navigate challenges and continually expand her expertise. For Hallie, the most memorable personal achievement came when she walked across the graduation stage with all four of her children watching—a testament to her perseverance and dedication to lifelong learning.

I attribute my success to staying hungry, motivated, and always willing to learn and grow.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is, “It’s nice to be nice,” and I’ve carried that with me thanks to my mentor, Betty Finley, who was my biggest cheerleader and always uplifting.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to stay determined and see it through—make sure it’s truly what you want and that you’re doing it for yourself.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field right now is the ongoing staffing shortage, as the stress and strain from COVID have reduced the number of available workers.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Hard work is the most important value to me in both my work and personal life, and I also love roller skating, doing arts and crafts, reading, dancing, and creating new memories with my family and friends.
