Her Story
About Hana
I've been in the medical field pretty much my whole life since I graduated high school. I started as a CNA working in a nursing home, which isn't easy, and then I was a patient coordinator, and then I transferred to the hospital and started working there as a check-in. I joined a program from UT Southwestern to receive my MRI certification, and I just earned my MRI technology about 2 months ago. I'm currently working there as an MRI technologist. I'm the first generation in my family to even go to college, so I really didn't have that guidance on what to do. I was just going based off what I was able to see, and trying to take the fastest route, which wasn't a pretty good idea at first, but it led me to where I'm at now. I'm pretty proud of where I came from, and to be known that I'm coming from that and building my way up is a very good accomplishment, since I pretty much did it on my own, worked on my own, paid everything on my own because my parents couldn't afford it. It's really nice to be part of the group, especially because there isn't really any Hispanics working there, so it's nice to be there and to be helping people out, especially when you're bilingual.

Ten minutes with Hana
01What do you attribute your success to?
My two little kids push me. Being able to actually become someone in my family is what motivates me. My kids are what push me and motivate me to keep going and achieve everything I've accomplished.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up. Look for your resources. There's always something out there. Even if you have kids, because I did it alone, I didn't have a support system at the time. And you just gotta believe in yourself and stay consistent. And you'll see the results, as long as you're consistent.
