Her Story
About Hana
Hana Badr is a lawyer specializing in competition law and antitrust. She studied law in a joint program at Cairo University and Sorbonne University in Egypt. Badr launched her career with an internship at the Egyptian Competition Authority in 2018. She then worked there for five years before being seconded to the COMESA Competition Commission for four months on regional matters. Badr later joined the World Bank as a competition law consultant. She attributes her drive to a passion for development and creating positive economic impact, particularly from her Egyptian background, preferring roles that allow her to see tangible effects on daily life rather than traditional law firm client defense. Badr advises young women entering law to specialize deeply in a specific area and pursue numerous internships early on, noting she completed seven such experiences.

Ten minutes with Hana
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my drive to being passionate about development and making a positive impact on the economy and daily life, especially coming from Egypt. I prefer roles where I can see the impact of my work rather than defending clients regardless of right or wrong in a law firm setting.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Get specialized in something very specific and accumulate experience in that area. Do lots of internships when young to find what you like, like I did seven internships.
