About Hanna
Hanna Ekumi is a dedicated Registered Nurse with a strong background in patient care, healthcare services, and nursing practice across the United States and Finland. She currently serves as a Registered Nurse at Altru Health System, where she provides compassionate, evidence-based care while supporting positive patient outcomes. Hanna demonstrates a strong commitment to her patients, bringing clinical expertise, professionalism, and a patient-centered approach to every aspect of her role. Prior to becoming a Registered Nurse, she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse, developing a solid foundation in clinical care, patient advocacy, oral medication knowledge and healthcare collaboration. Hanna’s nursing career began in Finland, where she spent more than seven years as a Home Health Licensed Practical Nurse with City of Espoo. In this role, she provided compassionate care to patients in home healthcare settings, specializing in geriatric nursing, subcutaneous injections, nutritional assessments, long-term care, and individualized patient support. Her international healthcare experience has enhanced her ability to provide culturally responsive care while adapting to diverse clinical environments. Hanna continued advancing her nursing education by earning an Associate’s degree in Registered Nursing from Northland Community and Technical College, after completing her Practical Nursing diploma from the same institution. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Hanna values family, personal growth, and maintaining a balanced life. She enjoys spending quality time with her husband and three children, often sharing her love of the outdoors through activities such as walking and camping. Fluent in English and Finnish, Hanna is passionate about lifelong learning, compassionate healthcare, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients and communities she serves. Her dedication, resilience, and commitment to nursing reflect her passion for providing exceptional care while continuing to grow as a healthcare professional.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to maintaining a strong passion for achieving my goals and support from my family. My determination, commitment, and enthusiasm motivate me to stay focused, overcome challenges, and continuously strive for excellence in everything I do. I also strive to motivate my children by showing in my everyday life how important it is to find your passion and keep learning.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to keep improving. I believe in continuously learning, developing my skills, embracing new challenges, and finding ways to grow both personally and professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to always ask questions and never be afraid to seek guidance. You do not have to be the smartest person in the room; what matters is being willing to learn, listen, and continuously grow. Asking questions is a strength and an important part of building knowledge, confidence, and expertise.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are compassion and family. I believe in treating others with kindness and respect, remaining grounded, and showing genuine compassion in everything I do. Above all, family remains a central source of support, purpose, and inspiration in my life.
